Of dogs and men
You see, I think you won’t be able to live your life on this planet without getting to know some random facts about pets in general or dogs in particular. Like a dogs' bark is worse than its bite, cats have nine lives, or that a frog in your throat is better than ants in your pants (or something similar). And I’m sure that you have heard about so-called dog years. It is a widespread truism that one human year is equivalent to seven dog years. Whether this is actually true or not has not been finally established, not to my knowledge that is. This 1:7 ratio is simply based on the premise that a dog lives approximately 10 years and a human about 70 years. Find out more about the true relative age of your dog for example in this post by almanac.com. The other day, Bea’s cake day, Madita and I posted on Instagram that Bea had just turned 21 in human years and is now allowed to drink in the US. Turns out that she might already be 28 years old. On the one hand that means she’s missed out on seven years of getting obliterated in Albuquerque, on the other hand, however, I don’t think Bea is much of a fan of the heat down there. And there you have it, before you know it you are knee deep involved in calculations, thoughts and worries you never had while being pet-less.
Cake-time
It happens really fast that you find yourself buying sugar and salt free peanut butter because you're trying to bake the best cake for your pet’s birthday for your pet. In our case it’s a carrot cake with cream cheese and peanut butter frosting, some little hearts on top to make it look extra special. We got that idea from a follower, who suggested baking a cake. And since we love all of you, we take your suggestions seriously. The cake turned out pretty great and Bea actually loved it. Still loves it. We didn’t let her have the entire cake all at once, of course.

Nothing changes - really.
This is what getting a pet actually means. They don’t change your life. They show you a new one. The lead you down a new path. A path filled with sugar free peanut butter, buying balloons and animal themed cups and plates, spending a fortune on veterinarians, worrying about them drinking too little or too much. I think this is especially true for dogs. They have this way about them, to instantly make you feel addicted to them and also make you feel like the most important person on the planet. Whether it’s our vanity or our sense of being needed and actually useful or something entirely different, dogs give us this feeling of being a special someone. We all need this once in a while, and if you ask Madita, she’ll tell you that I need this almost every day. Well, she might be right, like when she strongly suggested getting a dog.

Happy Birthday, Bea!

Bea truly was our guide to a whole new perception. This new way we live, the new way we plan our days, and of course this whole social media experience is all because of this little furry princess with a bottomless stomach. So, be prepared for buying a lot more carrots, cream cheese, sugar free peanut butter and poop bags than ever before. Be prepared for the unpreparable. And give it a try. Throw your dog a birthday party, with cake, treats, music. Invite friends (as you can see in the pic, Freddie the frog was the first to congratulate Bea). Make it a real celebration. It’ll just add to this crazy magic and unconditional love that dogs are able to make out of thin air.
Happy Birthday, Bea. And thank you.
