SHOPPING!

We all love ourselves some shopping now and then. And there is no better reason for heading to the stores than buying stuff for puppies. Here is our pre-puppy shopping list of things we consider worth buying.

Alternatively you can bring your puppy along.

The list

1. Food and Water Bowls: Stainless steel or ceramic bowls are durable and easy to clean. Make sure the puppy is not scared of the sound the bowls make on the surface you put them on.

2. Puppy Food: Choose a high-quality puppy food appropriate for your puppy's age, size, and breed. You'll have to adjust as the puppy grows.

3. Harness and Leash: Select a harness that fits properly and a sturdy leash. Again, adujst the size of the harness according to the puppies age. From day one we unsed Wolters products. Bea's very first harness (see pic) was this one. If you like to get one yourself use code wcdbea20 and get 20% off.

4. Identification Tags: Have personalized ID tags made with your puppy's name and your contact information. In Austria a dog tag is provided by the authorities. Also we have to chip the dog here. Nevertheless an ID tag is a sound idea.

5. Bed / Crate / Box: Provide a comfortable bed, crate or box where your puppy can sleep and feel safe.

6. Toys: Purchase a variety of toys for chewing, fetching, and interactive play to keep your puppy entertained. No squeaking! :-)

7. Grooming Supplies: Include a brush or comb suitable for your puppy's coat type, puppy-safe shampoo (maybe nail clippers and stuff for dental care)

8. Puppy Training Pads: If you plan to do indoor potty training, stock up on puppy training pads.

9. Cleaning Supplies: Have pet-safe cleaning products on hand for accidents and general cleanup. Your regual cleaning products might not be safe for dogs.

10. Flea and Tick Prevention: Choose flea and tick prevention products recommended by your veterinarian to protect your puppy from parasites.

11. Puppy Gate: Set up barriers or gates to restrict your puppy's access to certain areas of your home.

12. Pet Carrier: Purchase a sturdy and secure pet carrier for safe transportation, vet visits, and travel.

13. Stain and Odor Remover: Invest in a good quality pet-specific stain and odor remover to tackle accidents effectively.

14. Puppy Training Treats: Use small, soft treats for rewarding good behavior during training sessions. Since we learned about them, we use the Hunderunde treats on a regular basis. They are high quality, vegan (so you can give your puppy a little more) and sustainably made from the leftovers of juice production. Check them out here (aff).

15. Pet Insurance: Consider enrolling your puppy in a pet insurance plan to help cover unexpected medical expenses. That is unless your household insurance covers a dog, like most do here in Austria.

Whatever toy you get, they'll find a better one.

16. Puppy Books or Guides: Buy books or guides on puppy care, training, and behavior to help you navigate the early stages of puppyhood. And read Bea's blog!

17. First Aid Kit: Assemble a first aid kit with essential supplies such as gauze, bandages, antiseptic wipes, and emergency contact numbers.

18. Puppy Playpen: Consider getting a puppy playpen to provide a safe and enclosed area for your puppy to play and relax.

Bonus points

19. Chew Toys: Provide plenty of chew toys to satisfy your puppy's natural urge to chew and help with teething. There are plenty of different toys out there, from wooden to plastic. Just make sure they don't squeak.

20. Puppy Training Classes: Enroll in puppy training classes to learn essential obedience commands and socialization skills.

Conclusion

This comprehensive shopping list will ensure you have everything you need to welcome your new puppy into your home and provide them with a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable environment. What's your favourite item on the list? Or did we forget something crucial? Tell us in the comments!
